DESCRIPTION:Intra-slab seismicity (earthquakes that occur within plates as
they descend into the Earth's interior) remain enigmatic\, with the proce
sses that controls the location\, style\, and size of such earthquakes all
still up for debate. However\, they are also a critical\, if poorly-under
stood\, source of seismic hazard - as seen most-recently in the 2017 Tehua
ntepec and Puebla/Mexico City earthquakes. Dr Tim Craig will be talking ab
out some new work aimed at better imaging these earthquakes and the proces
ses they represent\, and how one might use that to inform future seismic h
 azard assessment.
