ells do? - Dr Jacqui Shields - MRC Cancer Unit

DESCRIPTION:Cancers are not just masses of malignant cells. Adjacent "norm
al” cells\, which include fibroblasts\, endothelial cells\, pericytes an
d immune cells – known as the stroma - form a microenvironment that co-
evolves with cancer from its earliest stages to shape progression. The obj
ective of this lecture is to convey the complexity of a tumour and its sur
rounding stroma. We will cover the components of the tumour microenvironme
nt\, their functional roles within a developing tumour and the implication
 s for therapy
