DESCRIPTION:Motivated by volcanic eruptions\, tidally controlled ocean cur
 rents\, and meteorological observations\, unsteady turbulent plume modelli
 ng will be discussed.  Recent work in modelling these flows suggests that 
 turbulent dispersion is a key physical process that takes place within a t
 urbulent plume.  Various attempts to include this process in the modelling
  of unsteady plumes will be discussed.  Finally an application to field da
 ta from Santiaguito volcano will be shown.
