DESCRIPTION:Worldwide\, ecosystems are affected by global change in the fo
rm of\nhabitat loss\, climatic warming\, or species invasions. These effec
 ts\nare usually observed at the species/population level\, with little\nst
udies focusing on effects at the community or ecosystem level. I\nwill dis
cuss how we can use ecological networks to observe\,\nunderstand\, and pre
dict the consequences of global change at these\nhigh-order organization l
evels. First I will provide a general\nframework to explore the consequenc
es of species loss within these\nnetworks. Second\, I will present more sp
ecific examples of how to use\nfood web and metabolic theory to observe an
 d predict changes in\ncomplex ecosystems.
