DESCRIPTION:Surveys of the cosmic large-scale structure carry opportunitie
s for building and testing cosmological theories about the origin and evol
ution of the Universe. Advancing the research frontier requires solving ch
allenging and unique statistical problems\, to unlock the information cont
ent of massive and complex data streams. In this talk\, I will present the
outcomes of recent methodological advances: the reconstruction of our cos
mic history\, and the estimation of physical parameters using "black-box"
simulators. I will then turn to the future and highlight some challenges a
nd opportunities for the next generation of galaxy surveys.
