SUMMARY:In search of the molecules of memory - ANNUAL LECTURE - Roger Nico
ll\, University of California San Francisco
DTSTART:20191118T163000Z
DTEND:20191118T180000Z
UID:TALK132061@talks.cam.ac.uk
CONTACT:Marisa Parsonage
DESCRIPTION:I will begin by introducing the problem of memory storage in t
he face of molecular turnover. I will then introduce long-term potentiatio
n (LTP) and the role of calcium/CaMKII in this phenomenon. I will show tha
t calcium and CaMKII are both necessary and sufficient for the induction o
f LTP. Much of the talk will focus on CaMKII and the maintenance of LTP (m
emory)\, which remains most contentious. Physiological evidence will be pr
esented indicating that CaMKII fulfills most of the criteria necessary for
  its role in information storage.
