SUMMARY:Schrödinger and his Equation - Sir David Clary FRS (University of
  Oxford)

DESCRIPTION:Schrödinger's equation is the central theory for describing t
he properties of atoms and molecules. It explains almost all experimental
observables in chemistry and also in many other areas such as materials sc
ience and molecular biology. Schrödinger proposed his equation in 1926 bu
t it is only quite recently that it has become possible to compute solutio
ns with good accuracy for systems with many electrons. This talk will desc
ribe this progress and will also give an original view of the interesting
time Schrödinger spent as a college fellow in Oxford in the 1930s.
