DESCRIPTION:We present numerical-relativity simulations of eccentric mergi
ng black hole binaries with initially anti-parallel spins lying in the orb
ital plane (the so-called superkick configuration). Binary eccentricity bo
osts the recoil of the merger remnant by up to 25%. The increase in the en
ergy flux is much more modest\, and therefore this kick enhancement is mai
nly due to asymmetry in the binary dynamics. Our findings might have impor
tant consequences for the retention of stellar-mass black holes in star cl
usters and supermassive black holes in galactic hosts.
