DESCRIPTION:Spontaneous neural activity is observed in many developing neu
ral networks. Multi-electrode arrays allow us to observe this spontaneous
activity within a connected network of neurons. In the first part of my\nt
alk\, I will present analysis of the spontaneous activity in two different
systems\, namely the retina and hippocampal cultures\, in particular how
the activity changes during development. In the second\npart\, I will show
recent modelling work that considers the roles that spontaneous activity
may have upon development of neural connectivity.
