DESCRIPTION:David Fairen-Jimenez\, a Royal Society University Research Fel
low in the Dept of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology\, will be this t
erm’s speaker\, talking about molecular engineering of porous materials
and their possible applications in clean energy and drug delivery systems.
\nDr Fairen-Jimenez leads the Adsorption & Advanced Materials Lab at the
University of Cambridge.\n\n“My group’s research concerns the study of
the molecular mechanisms that control adsorption processes in porous mate
rials. We are particularly interested in drug delivery systems\, where nan
otechnology has the potential to revolutionise cancer diagnosis and therap
 y. We are also interested in the use of novel porous materials for the nec
essary shift from today’s fossil-fuel-focused energy economy to more sus
tainable energy production. Our research in this area is focused on hydrog
en and renewable energy sources\, as well as carbon capture to mitigate th
e effects of global warming.”\n\nThe lab’s objective is to evaluate ne
w strategies in the study of adsorption processes\, the study and design o
f new porous materials such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and to deve
lop new methods in the prediction of their performance.\n\nDr Fairen-Jimen
ez has recently founded Tarsis Technology to manufacture and commercialize
a drug delivery solution that allows slower and more controlled delivery
of drugs using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). http://www.tarsis-technol
