DESCRIPTION:Come to the Winstanley Lecture Theatre at 6 pm to end the term
with Professor Christopher Pickard\, the leader of the Materials Theory G
roup at the Department of Materials Science in Cambridge! \n \n"Modern met
hods for computing the properties of realistic materials from first princi
ples (starting from quantum mechanics) have led to a creation of robust\,
efficient\, and widely used computer codes. Coupled with the explosion of
available computational resources\, it has become possible to search throu
gh the vast space of compositions and arrangements of atoms to discover ne
w materials with extreme properties. A recent highlight is the realisation
of record breaking superconductivity in the dense super-hydrides - hydrog
en sulphide (Tc=204K) and lanthanum hydride (Tc=260K)."\n \nThe talk is fr
ee and open for all! It will start at 18:15\, with the doors opening at 18
:00. To access the venue\, follow the signs or ask the porters.\n
