DESCRIPTION:Beginning with dogs over 15\,000 years ago\, the domestication
of plants and animals has played a key role in the development of modern
societies. Given its fundamental importance\, a vast body of literature fr
om a wide variety of academic disciplines has explored the origins of dome
stication. Ancient DNA in particular\, obtained both modern and archaeolog
ical samples\, have had a tremendous impact on our understanding of animal
domestication\, not only allowing us to retrace their geographic and temp
oral origin but also to understand fundamental evolutionary processes. Her
e I will present recent work from my group\, on pigs\, dogs and chickens t
hat highlights how ancient DNA is revolutionising our understanding of the
 ir history.
