DESCRIPTION:Tax historian Professor Peter Allen will be talking to the Cam
 bridge Tax Discussion Group about death taxes.\nFrom the Romans to Magna C
 arta\, through the Middle Ages to the current day\, Peter will show how de
 ath taxes have a far longer and varied history than most people perceive. 
 Peter will discuss not only the developing nature of death taxes themselve
 s\, but also the societal contexts in which they were levied\, with partic
 ular reference to the taxes' conflicts with inheritances and landed estate
 s.\nPeter is Associate Professor of Accounting & Taxation at the Universit
 y of Nottingham. A Chartered Tax Adviser and qualified accountant\, Peter 
 has been an adviser at HM Treasury's Office of Tax Simplification and Tax 
 Policy Research Manager at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Engla
 nd & Wales (ICAEW).
