DESCRIPTION:The Belt and Road initiative (BRI) represents an emerging and\
n important geo-political and geo-economic ambition for China aiming to\n
reconnect Eurasia through the land-based Silk Road Economic Belt and\n the
oceangoing 21st century Maritime Silk Road. Despite its rapid\n developme
nt since its inception in 2013 and the growing literature\n surrounding th
is initiative\, to date few studies focus on education.\n This talk aims t
o fulfill this gap by examining the relationship\n between education and B
RI.\n\n Although education is under-represented and under-researched on th
e\n New Silk Road\, there has been an growing interest in analysing and\n
theorising such nexus. This talks aims to shed light on BRI education\n po
licy formation and explains the ways in which education policy are\n const
ructed and coordinated in relation to culture\, politics and\n economy. By
  undertaking policy document analysis\, interviews with key\n scholars\, s
takeholders and policy makers\, I highlight the importance\n of education
and its essential and constituting role in facilitating\n the overall deve
lopment of BRI. The rapid changing global and regional\n geopolitical and
economic realities potentially mediate how education\n has been traditiona
lly understood\, thus shaping the future pathway\n simultaneously posing n
ew questions and challenges for decades to\n come.
