DESCRIPTION:The intersection form among curves\non a complex algebraic sur
 face always has signature (1\,n) for some n. So the automorphism group of 
 an algebraic surface always acts on hyperbolic (n-1)-space.\nFor a class o
 f surfaces including\nK3 surfaces and many rational surfaces\, there is\na
  close connection between the properties\nof the variety and the correspon
 ding group acting on hyperbolic space.
