DESCRIPTION:This partly historical\, partly current talk of the CMBolic pa
 th will\nbe of then\, then of now\, and then of future then. Then was big 
 bang\nnucleosynthesis\, before and after the cosmic microwave background\n
 discovery. Then is the emergence of what is now the standard model of\ncos
 mology\, in theory\, and in experiment out of an era of: large scale\nstru
 cture surveys and CMB upper limits\; the nearly perfect black body\nof COB
 E and UBC's COBRA\; the COBE/FIRS/SP91 etal first detections of\nanisotrop
 y\; the heterogeneous glimpse of a degree-scale up followed by\na down bey
 ond in a host of mid-nineties experiments\, hinting at the\nlong-sought ac
 oustic mountain range in the CMB structure.  All the\nwhile the beautifull
 y intimate coupling of theory and experiment was\nguiding us to a nineties
  concordance of the eighties\ninflation-motivated xCDM paradigm\, of cold 
 dark matter and x-energy\;\nand the constriction of the possible x into th
 e x of dark energy.\n\nIn the nearby now is the CMB precision era\, combin
 ing Boomerang\, the\nCosmic Background Imager\, ACBAR\, and many more high
  resolution\nexperiments\, with the low resolution COBE\, revealing in ful
 l glory the\ndamped acoustic peak structure and emerging CMB polarization.
  And\nWMAP1yr\,3yr\,5yr confirming and refining the weighty conclusions of
 \ndark energy dominating dark matter dominating ordinary matter. In the\nn
 earby then is a host of other CMB experiments\, including ACT\, SPT\,\nPla
 nck\, and Spider\, to fuel our cosmic parameter game with data to go\nbeyo
 nd mass-energy contents and broad-brush inflation/acceleration\nhistories\
 , to the subdominant mysteries that lie in the trajectories\nof fields the
 n - in the early universe - and now - the nearly present\nepoch.\n
