DESCRIPTION:The Cambridge Bahá'í community has organised a series of tal
ks and discussions on several core principles and teachings of the Bahá'
í Faith\, entitled "Principles for a Better World".\n\nTalks will take pl
ace on Wednesdays from 8-9:30pm from mid-January to mid-April. All talks a
re free and open to all\, and light refreshments will be served.\n\nThe ti
tle of this talk is * "Science and religion: Different but complementary w
ays of looking at the world" *.\n\n_Please note the date of this talk has
changed to 22nd April!_\n\nIt is often perceived that science and religion
are completely incompatible\, that they are so different that there is li
ttle or no common ground between scientists and people of faith. However\,
according to the Bahá'í teachings\, science and religion are tools that
can be used to investigate the nature of reality. There are many unanswer
ed questions in the world\, and by using science and religion as complemen
tary approaches\, we have a better chance of finding the answers.\n\nScien
tific capabilities - of observing\, of measuring\, of rigorously testing i
deas - have allowed humanity to construct a coherent understanding of the
laws and processes governing physical reality\, as well as to gain insight
s into human conduct and the life of society. On the other hand\, many of
the greatest achievements of religion have been moral in character. Throug
h its teachings and through the examples of human lives illumined by these
teachings\, masses of people in all ages and lands have developed the cap
acity to love\, to give generously\, to serve others\, to forgive\, to tru
st in God\, and to sacrifice for the common good. Social structures and in
stitutional systems have been devised that translate these moral advances
into the norms of social life on a vast scale.\n\nIn this talk\, we will e
xplore how science and religion can work together in harmony to help human
ity advance.\n\n_ "The well-being of mankind\, its peace and security\, ar
e unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established." _
