DESCRIPTION:Homological mirror symmetry for hypersurface singularities is
a series of conjectures relating the study of hypersurface singularities i
n symplectic and algebraic geometry. In particular\, given an n x n invert
ible matrix with non-negative integer coefficients\, one can define a quas
i-homogeneous polynomial. Berglund and Hübsch then suggested that this is
mirror dual to the polynomial defined by the transpose of this matrix. In
this talk I will introduce the requisite notions in order to state precis
ely what this means\, and focus on the case of curves where many of the id
eas can be effectively communicated by pictures.
