DESCRIPTION:In the last ten years the technique of long-baseline interfero
metry at\ninfrared wavelengths has\nallowed the inner astronomical units o
f numerous young stellar objects to\nbe probed. These new\nobservations\,
initially sizes measurements\, have revealed the need for a\nprofound rev
ision of\nstandard accretion disk paradigm at these angular scales. In th
e first\npart of the talk I will\nreview the most recent observational adv
ances in that field. These\n include spectrally resolved\nobservations wit
h the VLTI/AMBER and the first steps towards direct\nimaging of young disk
s at the spatial\nscales of planetary formation. These works point out the
need for refined\nmodels of the\ncomplex interaction between the star\, t
he mass loss phenomenon and the\naccretion disk. I will\ndiscuss the curre
nt observational limitations both in terms of image\ndynamics and sensitiv
ity.\n\nThis will lead me\, in a second part\, to present the second gener
ation\nVLTI instruments Gravity and\nVSI that will see the light between 2
 013 and 2016. I will briefly mention\nthe technological\ninnovations at th
e heart of there concepts that will help to overcome the\ncurrent issues.
These\ninstruments will soon offer the european astronomical community wi
th a\nunique tool to directly image\nprotoplanetary worlds at the astronom
 ical scale.\n
