DESCRIPTION:Peter Budd was born of missionary parents in Asmara\, Eritrea\
, and spent parts of his childhood in Southern Arabia\, the UK and the Hor
n of Africa. He studied for a BSc in Chemistry and a PhD at the University
of Manchester. After eight years working as a research chemist with BP at
Sunbury-on-Thames\, he returned to Manchester in 1989 as a lecturer. In h
is research\, he seeks to understand the interactions between polymers and
small molecules\, and to apply that knowledge in the development of novel
materials for applications such as membranes for industrial-scale separat
ions. He is co-inventor of a group of polymers referred to as “Polymers
 of Intrinsic Microporosity” or PIMs.
