DESCRIPTION:In the dawning age of sustainability\, energy harvesting and (
concomitant) dissipation at interfaces play a crucial role for processes t
hat feed and fuel our modern societies.\nThe most obvious dissipation chan
nel is given by vibrations of the surface atoms (phonons)\, but also elect
ron-hole pair excitations can play an important role.\nI am going to prese
nt some of our recent attempts to quantify the effects of both of these ch
annels by further developing and applying computer simulations.
