DESCRIPTION:Patient experience is one of the three pillars of quality of c
 are\, along with safety and effectiveness\, and an important tool to shape
  policy and improve patient care. Patient experiences research is now comm
 onplace in high-income countries. Yet similar research in other settings i
 s often lacking. How can capacity be built for conducting and learning fro
 m patient experience research in low- and middle-income countries\, and wh
 at are some of the challenges of undertaking such research in these settin
 gs? In this talk\, Dr Lisa Hinton will discuss her research in Kenya explo
 ring the experiences of mothers of preterm babies\, and consider how we ca
 n use this research to improve the provision of maternal and neonatal care
  in these settings. \n\nOur speaker: \nDr Lisa Hinton is a medical sociolo
 gist and a Senior Research Associate at THIS Institute\, leading applied r
 esearch programmes with a focus on maternity safety. Lisa has a degree in 
 Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge\, and a DPh
 il in Medical Sociology from the University of Oxford. She was previously 
 Director of Applied Research for the Health Experiences Research Group in 
 the Nuffield Department of Primary Care in Oxford where she worked from 20
 10-2019. Lisa’s programme of work is focused on using applied social sci
 ence research to understand patient and staff experiences and improve care
 . Her research specialises in pregnancy\, childbirth\, maternal morbidity\
 , and neonatal intensive care. She uses innovative qualitative health rese
 arch to develop and evaluate complex interventions and to inform health po
 licy and service improvement. \n\n*************************\nEveryone is w
