DESCRIPTION:In our digital age\, news spreads faster than ever before\, an
 d “the media” has taken on a host of new forms. What role does the med
 ia play in disseminating global health news and knowledge\, and how can it
  help to shape the response to global health issues? \n\nOur speakers:\nJa
 cqui Thornton\nJacqui is a health journalist\, facilitator and media train
 er who\, after a 15 year career in British national newspapers\, now advis
 es clinicians\, medical charities and the pharmaceutical on communication 
 skills. She was health correspondent at the Sunday Telegraph and was the f
 irst Health Editor at The Sun. Since 2007 she has run Jacqui Thornton Comm
 unications\, whose clients include the Royal College of Surgeons\, the GMC
 \, the Wellcome Trust and government\, as well as pharmaceutical firms and
  charities. She is a member of the Medical Journalists’ Association and 
 the Guild of Health Writers\, and is also a lecturer in journalism at the 
 University of Winchester. \n\nSarah Newey\nSarah is a journalist specialis
 ing in global health security\, with particular interests in women’s hea
 lth\, neglected tropical diseases and the effects of climate change. She c
 urrently at the Global Health Security desk at The Telegraph\, and was sho
 rtlisted as a Newcomer of the Year in the Medical Journalism Awards in 201
