DESCRIPTION:This talk is about joint work with Pavel Etingof and Victor Os
trik. A\ntheorem of Deligne says that in characteristic zero\, any symmetr
ic tensor\ncategory "of moderate growth" admits a tensor functor to vector
spaces or to\nsuper (i.e.\,\nZ/2-graded) vector spaces. In prime characte
ristic\, this is not true\, but\none may ask whether there is a good list
of "incompressible" symmetric\ntensor categories to which they they do all
map. We construct an infinite\nascending chain of finite symmetric tensor
categories in characteristic p\,\nall of which are incompressible. The co
nstructions are based on the theory\nof tilting modules over the algebraic
group SL(2). It is possible that this\nis the complete list\, but we have
  not proved that.\n
