DESCRIPTION:Our final event in the lecture series is a panel event moderat
 ed by Oliver Morton. The panelists are Martin Rees\, Bryony Worthington\, 
 Partha Dasgupta and Emily Shuckburgh. Please note the change in location. 
 This event will be held in the babbage lecture theatre on New Museum Site.
 \n\n\nMartin Rees is a British cosmologist and astrophysicist. He has been
  Astronomer Royal since 1995. In 2015\, he was co-author of the report tha
 t launched the Global Apollo Programme\, which calls for developed nations
  to commit to spending 0.02% of their GDP for 10 years\, on coordinated re
 search to make carbon-free baseload electricity less costly than electrici
 ty from coal by 2025.\n\nBryony Worthington is an environmental campaigner
  and life peer in the House of Lords. She has promoted changes in attitude
 s to the environment\, and action to tackle climate change\, and founded S
 andbag\, a non-profit campaign group designed to increase public awareness
  of emission trading. Lady Worthington was the lead author in the team whi
 ch drafted the UK's 2008 Climate Change Act. This landmark piece of legisl
 ation requires the UK to reduce its carbon emissions to a level 80% lower 
 than its emissions in 1990.\n\nPartha Sarathi Dasgupta is the Frank Ramsey
  Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Cambridge. His resea
 rch interests have covered welfare and development economics\; the economi
 cs of technological change\; population\, environmental\, and resource eco
 nomics\; social capital\; the theory of games\; the economics of global wa
 rming\, and the economics of malnutrition. Amongst many other awards\, he 
 received the European Lifetime Achievement Award (in Environmental and Res
 ource Economics) from the European Association of Environmental and Resour
 ce Economists\, the Blue Planet Prize for Environmental Research\, and the
  Tyler Prize. \n\nEmily Shuckburgh is a climate scientist\, mathematician 
 and science communicator. Her research interests include the dynamics of t
 he atmosphere\, oceans and climate and environmental data science. She lea
 ds the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in the Application of AI to the S
 tudy of Environmental Risks and is a fellow of the Royal Meteorological So
 ciety\, where she is co-Chair of their Climate Science Communications Grou
 p and a former Chair of their Scientific Publications Committee. She acted
  as an advisor to the UK Government on behalf of the NERC.\n\nOliver Morto
 n is The Economist’s briefings editor on energy and environment. He spec
 ialises in the energy business\, climate science and policy\, and other gr
 een issues. He is the author of several books including “Eating the Sun:
  How Plants Power the Planet”\, a study of photosynthesis\, its meanings
  and its implications\, and “The Planet Remade: How Geoengineering Could
  Change the World.”\n\nFree wine\, soft drinks and vegan food will be pr
 ovided - with a great opportunity for networking after the talk.\n\nAccess
