DESCRIPTION:The Teukolsky equation is one of the fundamental equations gov
erning linear gravitational perturbations of the Kerr black hole family. M
aking use of the separability of the equation\, we study fixed frequency s
olutions and obtain estimates which are uniform in the separation paramete
rs. \n\nAs a corollary we show that solutions of the Teukolsky equation ar
e bounded and decay in time\; this is a key first step in establishing lin
ear stability of Kerr. Moreover\, our estimates can also shed light on mor
e delicate features of the Teukolsky equation\, such as their scattering p
roperties.\n\nThis is joint work with Yakov Shlapentokh-Rothman (Princeton
 ).
