DESCRIPTION:About 15 years ago\, computer architecture research became bor
ing and incremental. This was to some extent caused by the inability of s
mall groups to build real systems. Today\, Field-Programmable Gate Arrays
(FPGAs) offer a possible solution to this problem. While the systems tha
t can be built using these devices cannot rival custom silicon implementat
ions\, they can run at speeds that are much faster than software simulatio
 n.\n	\nIn this talk\, I will describe BEE3\, an FPGA-based system designed
at Microsoft to support architecture research both in academia and indust
 ry.\n\n
