ic glaciers and icebergs? - Professor Mark Carey\, University of Oregon

DESCRIPTION:Evidence clearly shows that the world's ice is melting and tha
t catastrophes are likely to follow\, if they aren't occurring already. Bu
t how can we address climate change and work toward climate justice when s
o much of our relationship with Arctic ice is driven by economic and cultu
 ral practices\nthat perpetuate systems of inequality\, commodification\, a
nd domination -- the very systems that produced and now perpetuate anthrop
ogenic warming? This presentation focuses on Greenland glaciers and iceber
gs in the North Atlantic Ocean to expose some of these embedded contradict
ions in the way we study\, narrate\, and interact with Arctic ice\, even i
n the work supposedly meant to reduce climate change impacts. The goal is
to develop new stories and studies of ice\, to work toward greater glacier
  justice.
