DESCRIPTION:The talk describes two pre-processing methods useful for conve
rting linear RGB data to a Y′CbCr 4:2:0 representation\, especially help
ful for high dynamic range (HDR) video. The methods target the luminance a
rtifacts that can arise in saturated colors after compression when Y′CbC
r 4:2:0 is used together with the perceptual quantizer (PQ) transfer funct
ion. The first pre-processing method\, called luma adjustment\, can remove
the luminance artifacts\, but the artifacts can reappear when the Y'CbCr
data is compressed. The second method\, called chroma adjustment\, removes
the artifacts in a way that is more robust to compression. Moreover\, the
resulting Y′CbCr 4:2:0 representation leads to higher compression effic
 iency\, with a measured Bjontegaard-Delta rate (BD-rate) change of −2.4%
. Subjective improvements in compressed material are also clearly visible.
