DESCRIPTION:Icons were and still are an essential part of Orthodox culture
  in Russia. At the same time\, they are also works of art\, whose specific
  qualities were much appreciated by many figures in modernist art movement
 s from 20th c. onwards. This first lecture of the series will offer a cult
 ural and historical survey of the art of icon painting in Russia and its a
