DESCRIPTION:Giacomo\nwill talk about his research on functionally layered\
nconcrete carried out in Cambridge in collaboration with the\nConcrete Inf
rastructure Research Group (CIRG) led by Professor Janet Lees.\nCementis t
he most CO 2 intensive ingredient of concrete\, so\nusing it only where it
’s strictly necessary and reducing its\nproportions in concrete mixes wo
rks towards reducing its\nnegative impact on the environment The use of ce
ment can be\nsignificantly reduced through the innovative concept of\nfunc
tionally layered elements\, i e structural components where concrete with
high cement content is used rationally only when needed.\nGiacomo will tal
k about how the fresh state behaviour of\nfunctionally layered elements ca
n be characterized through\ninnovative experiments and predicted through p
lasticity\ntheory In the second part of his talk\, Giacomo will discuss hi
s findings on the hardened state behaviour of layered concrete elements\,
with particular focus on the bond strength at the interface between layers
