DESCRIPTION:Despite popularity\, concrete structures have their own enviro
nmental concerns. This study scrutinizes the conventional design and const
ruction approaches of concrete floor systems in order to minimise embodied
carbon. The design space of passively reinforced concrete floor beams is
parametrically explored varying the structural depths\, geometric profiles
and reinforcement configuration. Deflection of each design is also assess
ed and compared with conventional benchmarks in order to understand the se
rviceability performance of optimised designs. The importance of shape opt
imisation and selecting the structural depth is highlighted in contrast to
  conventional prismatic beam design.\n
