DESCRIPTION:The John Ray Society is delighted to welcome Dr Sir Venki Rama
 krishnan.\nDr Ramakrishnan is not only the current President of the Royal 
 Society (the independent scientific academy of the UK)\, but also a co-rec
 ipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2009 for studies of the structur
 e and function of the ribosome\, a cellular structure involved in protein 
 synthesis. He is currently a Group Leader at the MRC Laboratory of Molecul
 ar Biology here at Cambridge. \nDr Ramakrishnan will be discussing his est
 eemed career in a talk entitled ‘My Adventures in the Ribosome’\, whic
 h will begin in the McGrath Centre at 6:30PM with refreshments beforehand.
 \n\nAs we anticipate many to be interested in attending this event\, both 
 students and staff\, we would advise arriving early as the McGrath Centre 
 does have a maximum occupancy for health and safety reasons. We hope that 
 many of you will join us for this occasion to hear from such a prestigious
  scientist.
