DESCRIPTION:We propose a systematic approach to finding protocols which le
ad to phase separation with minimal dissipation in scalar field theories\,
with a focus on Model B dynamics. We employ a recent analogy between opti
mal control in stochastic thermodynamics and mass transport problems to an
swer two key questions: where in the phase boundary should an optimal prot
ocol terminate to demix a given homogeneous state\, and which dynamics sho
uld interpolate between the initial and final states? Analytic solutions a
re presented for the cases of phase-separation in Model B and Model A alon
g with a proposed extension to our procedure for the case of active system
 s.
