 rogrammable systems\, as seen from the academic perspective. The challenge
 s involved in the development of new architectures will be outlined. We wi
 ll focus on the use of analytical and model-based techniques and their rol
 e in guiding architecture design processes. In particular\, we will emphas
 ise the deployment of these techniques for modern heterogeneous FPGAs.
