DESCRIPTION:We describe our pilot 'PathGrid' study which applies astronomi
 cal image processing and data handling techniques to the challenges involv
 ed in analysing Tissue Micro Array (TMA) image data. Image analysis has be
 en applied to the input TMA data using open source solutions developed for
  an astronomical context. The resulting data products are in turn interfac
 ed to the clinical trials systems in use at Cambridge Resaerch Institute\,
  Cancer Research-UK. We show that astronomical image analysis and software
  engineering techniques promise a robust solution to bulk analysis of medi
 cal microscopy data.
