DESCRIPTION:Beginning in February 2019\, widespread anti-government protes
ts have taken place throughout towns and cities across Algeria. These have
coalesced into Hirak\, a political movement calling for democracy and gre
ater social equality. Inevitably\, singing and chanting have become integr
al to the protest. Dr Wilford will explore the ways in which music and sou
nd have helped to shape Hirak\, with particular focus upon the negotiation
of Algerian public and private space through sonic practices.\n\nRegister
