DESCRIPTION:We will discuss the results obtained from a series of laborato
 ry experiments performed to investigate the behaviour of gravity currents 
 in porous media of layered permeabilities. We will see how the flow patter
 ns are considerably different from that develops in a homogeneous medium a
 nd that the mixing between the injected and ambient fluids is significantl
 y higher. Finally\, we will conclude by showing how such flows can still b
 e modelled using reduced empirical correlations.
