pite its ubiquity in economics and legal theory\, the\nnotion of economic
efficiency is incoherent and thus does not provide an\nobjective guide to
policy or analysis. I am in the early stages of\nplanning a book project
in which I will write the lead chapter\nexplaining why the efficiency conc
ept is misunderstood and thus misused\,\nand in the remaining chapters oth
er scholars will explain how their\nfields of law should change once we st
op treating efficiency as a\nmeaningful concept. In this talk\, I will ex
plain in brief why\nefficiency has no fixed meaning and then explore with
all of you what\nthe other chapters of my planned book might cover (and wh
o might write\nthose chapters). Interested participants who want to read
something in\nadvance can focus on Parts II and V of this forthcoming arti
