DESCRIPTION:A growing number of countries and non-state entities are deplo
 ying mechanisms to block content and services on the Internet. Motivations
  include maintaining moral values and public order\, reducing political di
 ssent\, constraining freedom of expression and practice of religion\, as w
 ell as enforcing compliance with local laws. This talk will describe the s
 ystems which implement such blocking\, both technological and social. It w
 ill then look at censorship circumvention methods\, the effectiveness of t
 hese techniques\, and future directions for research.
