DESCRIPTION:Farming systems are changing and there is much focus on the ro
 le that robotics and automation needs to play in new systems\, both to ove
 rcome short term challenges and in the longer term the transformation to s
 ustainable farming. In this talk I will explore one of the levers that mul
 tidisciplinary teams can pull\, that of the design of the crop itself. I w
 ill review the current state of the art in crop genetics in an attempt to 
 demonstrate what is possible. I will then focus on the soft fruit industry
  and highlight some of the challenges and opportunities around sustainable
  intensification.
