DESCRIPTION:The Councils of the IMA and the LMS have produced a joint repo
 rt that was issued to members of both societies in early September. This d
 ocument sets out the framework and background case for a new\nmathematical
  society to replace the two existing societies. The Presidents propose to 
 conduct a consultation with members of both societies and others involved 
 with the future of mathematics in the\nBritish Isles. To aid this exercise
  the Presidents would like to engage in discussion directly with members i
 n universities and in regional branches.
