DESCRIPTION:The apparent variability in the forms of reincarnation beliefs
  and associated practices across cultures is widely documented in the anth
 ropological literature.  Yet when a comparative perspective is adopted\, s
 ome aspects appear to be remarkably similar.  The aim of this research is 
 to supplement cultural theories by taking account of what is known about i
 ndividual-level psychology. In doing so\, a number of hypotheses are gener
 ated and tested\, first among participants in the UK and then in India wit
 h members of the Jain community.
