DESCRIPTION:Ten years of LHC searches have turned up no physics beyond the
Standard Model. But we have just as much reason to expect new physics as
we did when the LHC first turned on. So where can it be hiding? This semin
ar will introduce two interconnected areas - R-parity violating SUSY and l
ong-lived particles - where there is well-motivated and under-explored spa
ce for a discovery. An overview of the techniques used and challenges invo
lved will be illustrated with some specific examples from the ATLAS collab
oration. There is a lot of interesting work still to be done before the fu
ll potential of these searches will be reached.
