DESCRIPTION:It is a truism both that human evolution has been shaped by th
e environment\, and that humans have themselves had a major impact on the
environment. In this lecture I will explore more precisely what role clima
tic and environmental change had on human evolution\, and the mechanisms t
hat may have been involved. I will also consider at what point there is ev
idence that humans began to have an impact on the broader environment\, an
d how this compares to trends in ecological and environmental change on a
 geological scale.
