DESCRIPTION:*Synopsis:*\n\nAlertMe connects people to their homes 24/7\, u
 sing ZigBee low power wireless radio\, broadband and mobile phone technolo
 gy. As a ZigBee PRO certified system with volume product shipping in the U
 K\, we have made the complete journey from one-line brief through prototyp
 ing and trials to a real consumer product\, selling now on the open market
 . We will describe our experiences developing a next generation\nhome awar
 eness platform\, with particular reference to ZigBee\, its radio character
 istics\, energy requirements\, interoperability and software development t
 ools.\n\n*Speakers:*\n\n_Dr Laura James_ was the first employee at AlertMe
 \, and lead engineering design for AlertMe's home monitoring product as Vi
 ce President of Engineering and then Chief Technologist. She previously wo
 rked at AT&T Labs in the US and UK\, designing and prototyping cutting edg
 e internet-connected consumer electronics systems. She holds Masters and P
 hD degrees in Engineering from the University of Cambridge\, is a NESTA Cr
 ucible Fellow\, and an alumnus of the Royal Academy of Engineering\nleader
 ship award scheme. Laura is also a Science and Engineering Ambassador\, an
 d is now working on innovative technologies for research and teaching in t
 he University of Cambridge.\n\n_Dr Amyas Phillips_ is design engineer at A
 lertme.com. He joined as employee number 2 and has moved the product from 
 one-line brief to buy now' sales. His doctoral research at Agilent Technol
 ogies and CUED was in backbone optical datacoms technologies\, but he's fo
 und working on a real consumer telecoms application every bit as challengi
 ng. His background is in physics\, which he previously taught in Sri Lanka
 \, and he is a Science and Engineering Ambassador.\n
