DESCRIPTION:*Synopsis:*\n\nCapturing and viewing images has never been eas
ier for the consumer than it is today. The\nproliferation of digital camer
as\, either on a dedicated device or combined with a mobile\nphone\, means
that most of us carry cameras with us the whole time and are likely to ca
pture\nimages both more often and also for more diverse uses than previous
ly. What we do with\nthose images though is much less obvious than in the
days of analogue systems. How do we\ndisplay\, share\, store\, archive and
retrieve images ? How will we be able to do this in the\nfuture ? Digital
technology offers an abundance of opportunities to address these question
s.\nSome examples of current activities will be presented together with a
discussion of possible\nfuture directions.\n\n*Speaker:*\n\nAlan has spent
his entire career at Kodak Research. Having joined as an analytical scien
tist\,\nhe specialised in mass spectrometry where he pioneered a number of
new techniques within\nthe company\, particularly focussing on the applic
ation of computer systems to data\nmanipulation and researching into the u
se of artificial intelligence for the interpretation of\nmass spectral dat
 a.\n
