DESCRIPTION:Ordered crystalline materials dominate research into both meta
 l-organic frameworks (MOFs) and hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites (HOIP
 s) [1\,2]. They are however a new family of glass-forming materials\, in a
 ddition to the known inorganic\, organic and metallic categories. Here we 
 discuss their response to temperature\, and the structural behaviour of th
 e liquids and glasses formed upon melt-quenching [3\,4]. We will also see 
 that these 'soft' materials exhibit highly unusual properties\, not just i
 n terms of their chemistry\, but also in terms of their behaviour at extre
