DESCRIPTION:We introduce a minimal model for describing two-dimensional cu
 rved carbon structures. The model is based on the standard realization of 
 crystal lattices which is extended by introducing next-nearest neighbor in
 teractions. We demonstrate that\, without any free parameters\, the model 
 is able to qualitatively reproduce curved structures like carbon nanotubes
 \, cone- and saddle-like configurations near topological defects and negat
 ively curved carbon crystals. Due to its simplicity\, the model generally 
 yields unique equilibrium configurations and is computationally inexpensiv
 e\, suggesting it as a possible first step preceding more involved computa
