DESCRIPTION:Blood contains the infectious agent associated with prion dise
 ase affecting several mammalian species\, including humans\, cervids\, she
 ep\, and cattle. It has been confirmed that sufficient prion agent is pres
 ent in the blood of both symptomatic and asymptomatic carriers to initiate
  this fatal neurodegenerative disease. Our work focuses on refinement of a
 ssays to detect prions in blood permitting characterization of the tempora
 l presence and blood cell phenotypes critical to prionemia. \n
